Recruiters get frustrated when a candidate disconnects the call abruptly

Recruiters ideally spend most of their day in sourcing candidates. Mainly over calls. And not all the calls they make are smooth ones, some test their patience, some test their ego.

In my initial years as a beginner, I get demotivated and sometimes furious when a candidate disconnects the call after hearing that I’m calling for a Job opportunity. I was personally taking it as an insult. At one instance, I had even called one such candidate from my personal number and blasted at him for being insensitive. Only to realise my foolishness. I don’t have to be a judge for someone’s actions. That’s not my role. Plus, that call I made to blast the candidate, it literally ruined my day too.

May be,
- the candidate would have got so many similar calls before you called up, which triggered him/her to act that way.
- the candidate’s manager / colleague would have walked by when you were speaking
- the candidate is not really looking for a job, and had forgotten to remove his/her profile from the Job boards
- the candidate is literally insensitive

whatever be it, you don’t want to ruin your day by taking such things personally.

My Advice, Change your elevator’s pitch, you will start seeing a drop in the number of candidates turning down your calls.
